theological conversations in my head

So I have determined that I was born a nerd. Given the academic professions of many of my family members, this fact does not shock me. I made it through 3 months without studying much theology. I still read my Bible and a few other lightweight books that I ordered online (like Edersheims The Life and Times of the Messiah- highly recommended!). But I have recently began to study again. I am currently looking at dispensationalism, covenant theology, and the Emergent Church. Very interesting topics, indeed.
So with this in mind, I am not sure what I am going to do here. Many, if not most Chileans, just don´t really care about these things. Which is fine, but I love to study them. So... I am not sure. I might end up walking the halls of Westminster for a few years.

Hello! Such a joy hearing your voice last night! My flight made it back safely. Love to see that you're back to your studying. Let me know if you need any "emergent" books. I actually have one waiting to be mailed to you, which brings me to a request I've asked numerous times, but I can't help it....I want to be certain: If I were to send you a package THIS WEEK, what address would I put on the package? Thanks love, and I'll get a taste of emergent thinking headed your way. God bless!

Are you shockproof? If so, go to Google or Yahoo and type in "Pretrib Rapture Diehards" (noting LaHaye's hypocrisy in "1992) to read newly found facts about the pretrib rapture's 175-year-old history. If you think the writer is off-the-wall, type in "Scholars Weigh My Research" to see what the biggies think of his research in Britain. Love, Louise

I think you SHOULD walk the halls of Westminster!...in Philadelphia...in say, 4-8 months? ;) I was SO bummed I missed your call yet again! I want to call you back, but our phone line is messed up and to do so on my cell phone might cost me about as much as coming to visit. I'm around for the next few days though if you want to try again! (we're still waiting for the phone co. to come out :() Still, I must say your message had me laughing out loud because it was so classically Becka. I was actually missing you a bunch last night because as I was desparately seeking someone to engage in theological discussion with me. I even had bible study, but no one but my bible study leader really wanted to bite. I know you would have been deep in it with me! Specifically, I want to discuss secularism in the Church, which should be united as the body of Christ and what authentic fellowship should entail. Actually, there's a lot more to it, but it would make for a long blog comment :) It was spurned by my reading Life Together by Deitreich Bonhoffer. Have you checked him out yet? If not, do because it's got me thinking about you. His writing is the kind you really have to chew on and process. Yes, so I hope I talk to you soon, I'm glad you're a nerd (I too have enbraced my nerddom)and I second RAchel that I would really like your current address! Miss you!!!!!!!! Kal

Okay a quick comment becuase I am not sure if people read the commentaries after they write in them. Rach, thanks for always trying to stretch my mind. Louise, I am not sure I know who you are, but thanks alot of the lead on LaHaye, I will definitly be checking out the website! Kallie, I would have relished that conversation like no tomorrow. I will see how I do in the winter here in Santiago, and MAYBGE consider Philly. I do have family there... and Leslie, do you remember Mai from my apartment? She introduced me to the whole predestination thing and the five months after Project were spent obsessively studying the thing. I ended up on Calvins side, kinda. By the way, How are you sweetie?!

a good sign

I live near a long thin park called Parque Forestal. It's really quite a nice park and it has a long stretch of a lane for riding bikes or jogging. And since I have a fear of riding bikes in this city, I jog. It's really pleasent. I usually listen to radioDisney on my mp3 player and jog along to Jonas Brothers, Beyonce, or Julieta Venegas. Great stuff. Yesterday on my jog I noticed that the trees were beginning to change. Fall has finally arrived and I am glad for the change. But as I was jogging through the falling leaves, I began to think about how much I like fall. And I had this special moment when I realized that I want to be here in Santiago, jogging through this park for many falls to come. After the past few weeks of cultural adjustment being a little more painful than normal, this was a nice thought to have.

la musica de chile

For a moment I would liek to ponder the music of Chile. You see, I listen to just about everything (except non-live jazz). Even country, although in this category I limit myself to Dixie Chicks and The Judds (only the old stuff). Here in Chile there is really only a few types of music. One, the corny romantic music that belongs on programs like "Delilah at night". Being the hopeless romantic that I am, I love this type of music. Another type of music is Reggaton (not sure about the spelling, but do I ever spell words correctly?). This is Latin America´s response to Hip Hop. Very good for dancing. I also love the fact that most Reggaton is in Spanglish, my favorite language. There is this other type of music that I like to call the "Corny Electric Piano Musica". Too corny for me and I can only take so much electric piano in one song. I am amazed at how much Englsih music is played here. And people sing to it. they actually know the words, but they have no clue what t

murderous thoughts for cats

I got home from work today, exhausted, only to face the horrible whining of the neighborhood cats outside my window. They used to be really loud, and then in the cold of the winter they disappeared. But now they seem to have returned in full force. I sure hope I can sleep tonight!
