I just love it. I do. Yesterday was spent going to church, both the ingles and espanol ones, and then picking up some groceries since I have literally nothing in the house, reading my bible on a bench outside of the apartment building, and then for a good few hours hanging out with my new roomies. I was eating my tofu and broccoli stirfry when the boys came home and they cooked up dinner and soon we were all watching a horribly corny movie on tv. We talked and laughed and had a great time. We finished off the night with some red wine (my new chose for alcohol) and got to bed fairly early (chilean time) at 1am. In any case, I really like the guys. Both are very laid back and easy to talk to. I am even understanding more and more of what the Argentinian says. The only down side to the apartment is the absolute loudness of the night. Since I live on the main street of Santiago and in almost the center of town, it is active all night, and I am telling you I am woken up so many times during the night from noise. I think this is something I will get used to as time goes on, so I am going to buy earplugs yet. But outside of that one bad element, I love the place.
I live near a long thin park called Parque Forestal. It's really quite a nice park and it has a long stretch of a lane for riding bikes or jogging. And since I have a fear of riding bikes in this city, I jog. It's really pleasent. I usually listen to radioDisney on my mp3 player and jog along to Jonas Brothers, Beyonce, or Julieta Venegas. Great stuff. Yesterday on my jog I noticed that the trees were beginning to change. Fall has finally arrived and I am glad for the change. But as I was jogging through the falling leaves, I began to think about how much I like fall. And I had this special moment when I realized that I want to be here in Santiago, jogging through this park for many falls to come. After the past few weeks of cultural adjustment being a little more painful than normal, this was a nice thought to have.

sleep is essential for health! you can go without enough sleep for a certain amount of time, but not interminably. eventually your immune system will be compromised and you'll start getting sick a lot. and it will age you more rapidly too. so pay attention, and if you can get used to the noise, great. but if you can't, then your health comes first.

I heard some joke, although I can{t rememer the details. It had something to do with how jewish mommas think that they are doctors too. I wish I could remember the punch line.
